What is the vision?
Thinking about Reconstruction Part 1

The vision I am interested in working toward is a more equitable, more democratic future. This world has the following characteristics:
· the government is more representative of and accountable to working-class people and their interests
· more resources are shared rather than horded by a few people (and our tax system reflects this)
· all people are cared for and have opportunities to contribute and thrive
· we live in harmony with the natural world
You may have ideas to add. I want to work with and be influenced by others to further develop a collective vision, especially those who have historically been excluded from political and organizational leadership. Our new vision will only be viable if it is inclusive and broad-based.
What role do nonprofits play in this utopian world? It is unclear. I do believe humans will always organize into groups and create organizations to accomplish their goals. There are so many ways to organize ourselves. It is probably wise not to become too attached to a single organizational structure. I do believe that people will continue to organize for social change, either on a volunteer or a paid basis. People who care about building a better world should keep our focus on our vision and mission and continue to create and evolve organizational structures that help us achieve them. The organizations we build should reflect our values, including justice and human dignity.
